We are minding a friend’s dog* at the moment.

(*When I say “dog”, I really mean “semi-domesticated bear”!)

In preparation for the dog’s visit, we cleaned up the back garden and moved anything that could be of interest to the bear’s mouth to higher ground.

We thought we were ready.

It didn’t take long for us to be proven wrong.

Even now, as I look out at our back garden this morning, I see a few holes dug and a few footballs (that we thought were lost) now ready for the bin.

What’s my point?

We thought we were ready.

We thought we had decent defences.

But we never had a dog before.

And our lack of experience made it easy for the dog to get past our defences.

What’s my point?

If you’ve never experienced a cyber attack before,

don’t just assume your defences are strong.

Find someone to audit and test them,

before a real attacker does.
